Why Your Website Is Slow, and How to Fix It
Slow websites lose visitors. Before you upgrade your hosting, check the usual causes. They are often cheap to fix.
Oversized images
The most common culprit. Photos straight from a phone or camera can be several megabytes. Resize them to the size they are shown at and use modern formats such as WebP.
Too many plugins and scripts
Every plugin, tracker and widget adds work for the browser. Remove what you do not use and load heavy scripts only where they are needed.
No caching
Caching stores ready-made copies of your pages so the server does not rebuild them for every visitor. If you use WordPress, a caching plugin makes a large difference.
Unoptimised database
Over time databases collect revisions, spam and leftovers. Clean them up occasionally and keep your CMS updated.
When it really is the hosting
If you have fixed the above and the site is still slow, or your traffic has truly grown, a larger plan will help. You can check your resource usage in cPanel to see whether you are reaching your limits.
